Sustainability

Sustainable development is the evolution that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. For this reason such development has to involve the environmental aspect, so that the hotel grows and prospers, but without harming the environment and society.

Environmental sustainability is the part of sustainable development that is most commonly associated with the concept of sustainability. The following aspects will be included in this section: emissions, energy, water and waste.

Emission reductions

Reducing emissions is a basic task for environmentally conscious hotels. The first measures to be implemented should be those that prevent emissions, either by avoiding their origin or by reducing them. In order to reduce emissions, the most important measure taken at the Cabogata Jardín Hotel is the efficient use of energy. Saving energy leads to a reduction of emissions and economic savings. The use of renewable energies is a clear alternative to prevent CO2 emissions at source.

All the electrical energy consumed at the Cabogata Jardín Hotel comes from “green” sources (photovoltaic, solar, wind) through an agreement signed with the energy supplier.

We guarantee the energy consumption that is necessary at any given moment to optimise resources, implementing presence detectors or timers in the passage installations, such as corridors and toilets.

We have replaced traditional incandescent lamps with low-consumption or LED lighting systems, generating significant energy savings.

Water

Fresh water is a necessary and scarce resource for life, so it is essential to apply conservation and saving measures in order to be able to use this resource when necessary.

All the plants and trees in the gardens of the Cabogata Garden Hotel are native and require minimal irrigation, which is drip irrigated in order to avoid and minimise the impact on nearby aquifers.

Waste

The main objective in waste management is its reduction by the hotel. To this end, the hotel has implemented a series of measures that avoid and minimise the creation of waste and contribute to its reduction wherever possible.

The hotel has eliminated the use of single-use plastics, the water we offer in the different restaurants and bars is in recyclable glass or brick containers.

All the “glassware” used in the Tikki Bar and other restaurant areas of the hotel is made from recycled polycarbonates or sugar cane and other organic elements that are compostable, recycled with the rest of the organic waste to make compost for the plants.

All waste generated by the hotel is sorted and separated for recycling, reuse, transformation or, if it has no further life, it is delivered to a certified and approved company for disposal.

The hotel has a pneumatic waste transport system to facilitate subsequent recycling.

The amenities, shampoo and gel that we offer in our rooms are made with natural products that have not been tested on animals. Furthermore, their packaging is environmentally friendly and recyclable. You will also find combs, toothbrushes and other products that are made from starch and bamboo.

Continuous improvement with accountability

We are renewing the mattresses in all the rooms, incorporating mattresses whose filling is made of recycled plastic extracted from the Mediterranean Sea and the Cantabrian Sea, specifically from the areas adjacent to the Murcian-Andalusian coast and the Cantabrian-Asturian coast.

Additionally we collaborate with other projects, all the coffee consumed in the hotel (Supracafé, which is delicious), is grown in the Caucas Valley in Colombia, by a cooperative of women who were orphaned or widowed during the “hard” years of the conflict between the FARC and the Colombian army. It is a project protected by the United Nations.

And we are continuously working on new plans and implementations:

  1. Evaluating the replacement of the roofs of the car park with photovoltaic panels.
  2. Incorporating together with the energy company charging points for electric vehicles.
  3. Reuse of artificial grass made from recycled plastic extracted from the Mediterranean Sea.
  4. Agreements with Colibri Hats products, made by women’s cooperatives in Ecuador.
  5. Implementation of geothermal energy to maintain the temperature of the swimming pool during the winter.

Thank you for making together an ecologically sustainable world for our children and future generations.
